After five day's of silence the announcement finally came through this morning (NZT) of the appointment of a new Challenger of Record for the 34th America's Cup.
It has not been lost on too many of the sailing media that the two collaborators on a multihull circuit, planned to be sailed in 70ft catamarans, and announced four years ago, are now very cosily ensconced as Defender and Challenger of Record for the 34th America's Cup.
Normally America's Cup stories will top Sail-World's story ratings, however this one was an exception, getting bounced off the top spot for the day by the stunning revelation that Prince William and Kate had chartered the fastest yacht in the Seychelles.
We have both stories in this edition - maybe you can judge for yourself, which is the most newsworthy.
One of the targets for the new America's Cup is the attraction of young sailors to the event and develop a fan and sailing base that is blonde, rather than grey or no-haired.
In this edition we feature an entry level catamaran, developed by Neil Deverell and sailed by his son Nathaniel who will represent NZ in the 2011 Optimist Worlds, later this year.

Certainly the design looks to have the goods, and could do to multihull sailing what the 14ft Paper Tiger did many years ago when Ron Given produced a fast, light and simple catamaran - that has well stood the test of time.
Two of the Volvo entries launched have either completed or in the process of doing their 2000nm Qualifying voyages. In this edition we report on Camper's tour of the NZ coast along with a couple of video's from on board.

Puma, we hear has returned to Newport, Rhode Island this morning having been on a jog down the Florida coast to Miami. Meanwhile in Spain Telefonica has started her Qualifier in the Mediterranean. We report on the former and the latter in this issue.

As reported in our Monday edition, the Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show was something of a watershed for the marine industry - as the recession was shaken off and boaties got out their wallets. In this edition we report on the great sales that were made, and which should help a nervous industry get through the winter, and be poised for an excellent summer.
