Welcome to Sail-World Canada
It's Spring Open House Season!
For the first time ever, the boat dealers and brokers of Port Credit are hosting the First Annual Port Credit Yachting Super Centre Spring Open House, in association with Bristol Marine, Canadian Yachting, Mason's Chandlery and Port Credit Harbour Marine. Join Anchor Yacht Sales, Crates, Navy Point Yacht Sales, North Lakes Yachting, North South Nautical Group, Pat Sturgeon Yachts and True North Yachts on May 28 and May 29 and get a great deal on your new boat. Enjoy food and refreshments while dreaming about your next cruise on the water. RSVP to openhouse@canadianyachting.ca and receive a coupon for a free lunch!
Velux 5 Oceans final Sprint 5 starts in Charleston, SC on May 14th. Crossing the Atlantic Ocean, the skippers will be focusing on their race environment as they not only race on the water, but compete for the final leg sustainability prize. We can expect them to reflect on their experience over the past eight months as they share their views towards a more sustainable future in ocean yacht racing. Supported by the Velux 5 Oceans' own green mission 'Taking On The Elements'; the award encourages the skippers to raise awareness through their own sustainable practices at sea.
Dragon wins the offshore leg of the first Atlantic Cup event in a tight race from New York City to Newport, RI, where the in-port fully crewed event will take place this week-end. While only five Class 40 yachts participated in the inaugural event; this event constitutes a major introduction to the class in North America and we look forward to more action in the future.
On the America's Cup scene, in an unusual turn of event, the Challenger of Record, Mascalzone Latino has just announced that they will not compete in the 34th America's Cup in 2013. Find all the details are in Richard Gladwell's full story.
The outcome of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Mid-Year Meeting last week has left many Olympic medal hopefuls with their shattered dreams, particularly those athletes who have been practicing hard in keelboats; the men's venerable Star and and women's newer Elliott 6m have both been eliminated from the competition for 2016. We offer different different point of views again this week.
Racing season is finally upon us, see you on the start line soon!
