In this edition of Sail-World, we continue our coverage of the America's Cup Media Trials, which wrap up on Friday in Auckland.
On the other side of the world in St Petersburg, Russia, the International Sailing Federation are staging their Mid-Year Meeting, which normally doesn't attract too much attention - except this meeting is to confirm the Olympic Events for the 2016 Olympic Regatta in Rio de Janeiro.
The meeting, or series of meetings, are the final play in the process that started in May 2010, when the ISAF's Olympic Commission set out its views on how the Olympics and sport should be shaped.
In this edition we have the first part of a two part series, which looks at the background to the meeting this week and our view as to why things are the way they are.
One of the issues is that the delegates to the meeting, and its predecessors, seem to be unable to disconnect their thinking from the current range of Olympic classes, typified by the view that if you think of a Mens Keelboat, as an Event (which is what they are supposed to be selecting, this week) then you think of the century old Star as the only option.

New Zealand designer, Greg Elliott drew the lines of the boat currently used for the Womens Match racing event - the Elliott 6M. Now he has produced some enhanced options which take the Elliott 6M firmly into the two (or three) man keelboat Olympic slot, with the advantage, that like the Laser it uses the same hull, but different rig options for crew numbers and weight.
As can be seen by the image here, she is a very hot boat.
Part of the Elliott design legacy has been the development of various youth training fleets around the world - which have been the stepping stone into the match racing circuit, America's Cup and could be a very good Olympic option - and compatible with the investment made for in the existing Womens keelboat by many countries around the world. Building sailing fleets in so-called developing sailing countries is part of the Olympic Commission prescription. Do you make the connection??

From what we hear the ISAF is set to drop the keelboat completely from the Olympic regatta (for Men and Women). That means that the largest part of sailing is not represented at the Olympics.
Later today we will be publishing Part 2 of the Olympic commentary which looks at the Event options.
Also in this edition of Sail-World, double Olympic medalist Bruce Kendall wades in with his thoughts on kiteboarding as an Olympic event. It's a controversial view.
The Volvo Ocean Race is gearing up, first with the launch of Camper - campaigned by Emirates Team NZ. She is currently headed for Dunedin. We have reports of her port tour in this edition, but sadly few images.
On the East Coast of USA, Puma is the second Volvo 70 to be launched and we have images of her first sail and spectacular hull and sail graphics in this edition.
