Sail-World New Zealand: 15 April 2011
 | | CAMPER has her first sail in the Hauraki Gulf Chris Cameron © | Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand newsletter for 15 April 2011
Yesterday marked a significant milestone for Emirates Team NZ with the first real sail of their new Volvo 70 being campaigned by the Spanish shoe manufacturer Camper for the 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race.
She is also the first of the new Volvo 70's to be launched in what looks to be a very keenly contested race amongst a high quality fleet.
Also out we believe, was the team's AC45 and overnight in Qingdao, skipper Dean Barker and crew were contesting the second round of the Extreme Sailing series in Qingdao, China.
It is quite a remarkable effort to have three programs running at once, particularly when most of the other professional sailing teams around the world think they are doing very well to manage just a single campaign.
In this edition we have several stories on the Volvo 70 sail and the racing in Qingdao, along with some excellent embedded videos.

Our local contributors have excelled themselves in this edition with two reports from the upcoming Young 88 Nationals, the SR26 Nationals, the Elliott 5.9 Traveller Series plus Logan Fraser reports in from the Qatar Match Race series.
Designer of the Laser, Bruce Kirby, also provides a tribute to his friend and fellow Int 14 sailor, Geoff Smale.
