Welcome to Sail-World Canada
Mirabaud dismasted in the Barcelona World Race!
Attrition continues in the Barcelona World Race; Dominique Wavre and Michèle Paret are riding the storm towards Argentina under a jury rig after Mirabaud was dismasted on Saturday. In Ushuaia, the keel damage on Groupe Bel has forced their retirement. Hugo Boss is currently in the Falkland Islands to repair the mainsail track. With less than 500 miles to the equator, Virbac-Paprec 3 will be the first yacht to experience the challenge of the Doldrums.
Those of you who have been following the Velux 5 Oceans race will not want to miss the upcoming live web chats; the four skippers will take some time away for their Sprint 4 preparations to answer fans questions on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 22nd and 23rd. See our story for the details!
Congratulations to Canadians Richard Clarke and Tyler Bjorn for their recent success as key players in major regattas. As a team, they are back to challenge for an Olympic medal in the Star in 2012. In between Star training sessions, they keep busy sailing the Open 60 O Canada!, Richard Oland's SC 52, Vela Veloce and a California based TP52. We wish them the best on their way to London 2012!
Miami Sailing Week just wrapped up yesterday; Jon Messenger on Black Sheep, his Melges 20, posted the best Canadian results; legendary Hans Fogh with Roger Green finished in the top third in the Star.
Finally, don't forget that Ontario Sailing is now accepting nominations for this year's Ontario Sailing's Legend of Ontario Sailors Award presented by Canadian Yachting Magazine. The award recognizes outstanding contribution to the recreational and/or competitive sport of sailing in Canada.
All the best!
