Youth sailing has been to the fore this week, with the Harken International Matchracing series being contested off Westhaven, and the Youth teams being treated to a view of the AC45 in the Viaduct harbour.
In this edition of Sail-World we have several reports from the Harken series - contested between teams from Australian and New Zealand yacht clubs.
We also were down at the Viaduct Harbour as the AC45 was wheeled out, rigged and launched, and shown off to the youth sailors.
In this edition we take you through a step by step process on the rigging of the AC45 - which takes just 30 minutes. Load up is however long you wish to make it. The difficulties which were such an issue in Valencia 12 months ago with USA-17 seem to have been solved - on her small sister at least.
The AC45's exit from the marina is also a slick affair - with the neat, quick and controlled haul astern - like popping a cork from a bottle.

Obviously the scale of the launch process will increase with the AC72 - and conventional marinas which seem to take an AC45 quite neatly, will have to be bigger to take the AC72. The loads will obviously be significantly greater. From what we have seen with the AC45, it should be all doable - and nothing like the issues experienced with USA-17 in Valencia just over a year ago.
A week ago the ORMA60 TVS dropped her rig in spectacular fashion while sailing at 25kts on Auckland's Waitemata Harbour. In this edition we feature the unedited video of the incident, taken by a spectator on Devonport Wharf. It is a great clip and underlines the power that everyone now has to capture incidents on mobile phones and similar small hand held devices, and produce web-quality images and video.
The two man Round the North Island race gets underway on Saturday. In this edition we preview the event, and have a quick look at the weather prognosis.

One of the serious question marks hanging over the choice of a wingsailed multihull for the America's Cup has been the rigging process. Those who were in Valencia 12 months ago would have been only too aware of the issues faced daily by the then BMW Oracle Racing team as they tried to keep USA-17 on a short leash between races, and without having to lower the wingsail each night.... Getting a wingsailed AC45 loaded up and off the marina is not a simple task. The degree of difficulty is similar to undertaking the same task in an AC monohull with the sails up, rather than being towed out by a tender.
