Here we are at 01 January - 1.1.11 and the beginning of a new year. Sail-World Asia wishes sailors everywhere a very Happy New Year, fair breezes (and may you always be on the right side of the shift).
They've made up their minds about the America's Cup at last - San Francisco is the venue. Actually we never quite understood the horse-trading in the first place... the AC is held by the Golden Gate Yacht Club, so you defend on your home waters, right? Simple. But they got there in the end.
News has been dominated these last few days by the Rolex Sydney-Hobart Race - you can't have missed it! Wild Oats XI took Line Honours and survived a protest, Secret Men's Business 3.5 collected the handicap win, and the very last boat home, Illusion, made it to Hobart in time for the QLD on New Year's Eve. It was a toughie of a race. Illusion's owner, Jonathan Stone, described the race as 'dangerous, but beautiful.' If you missed any of the stories, just scan down the Sail-World Asia website - our stories stay 'up' permanently, even if they fall off the bottom of the page, so to speak. Just use the Search button.
Closer to home, and the Optimist Worlds are happening in Langkawi right now. Next week is the Phuket International Boat Show (PIMEX) 6-9 January, and straight after that is the Royal Langkawi International Regatta, 12-15 January.
Sail-World Asia looks forward to seeing you on the water, or on a boat, or through a camera lens, sometime in 2011. Cheers!
Guy Nowell, Editor
