Only six weeks to go before the inaugural Neptune Regatta (starts 01 February) – the first regatta that we know of to lay a finish line on the equator. Organisers have completed another recce down towards 0° 0' 0', and came back with news and photos – below. If you are not yet signed up for what looks like the most ‘inclusive' event in Asia, involving racing boats, cruising boats and even power boats, then take a look at the website and the info to date, and be there at Nongsa Point at the end of January... it's going to be fun!
There's another fairly major race on the horizon – and even sooner. The Rolex Sydney-Hobart Race takes off on Boxing Day 26 December, and the ‘cats and dogs' people are predicting a big blow. The ‘Hobart' is generally reckoned to be the most-covered and most-followed of all the ocean classics, and Sail-World.com will be contributing to that coverage. There's loads of news on our website, and you can sign up for an exclusively-Hobart-newsletter as well (it's free, of course!)
And speaking of coverage... a good slice of it will be enabled through Skype (see story). How on earth anyone survives without Skype these days is beyond me, but believe it or not there are still a few steam-driven communicators who view it with great suspicion! So remember this – the man that started it all, Nicklas Zennstrom, is a sailor – the owner of Ran. So it must be a good thing, right?
Today is the shortest day of the year, so we'll have to start the rum and cokes early in order to get through the ration before nightfall! Christmas is coming, splice the mainbrace!
Sail-World Asia wishes all our readers a very Merry Christmas, fair breezes, sunshine, and plenty of opportunity to get out on the water over the festive season.
