Sail-World New Zealand: 19 December 2010

Rolex Trophy RTS 2010 - Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, Sydney  Andrea Francolini ©
Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand newsletter for 19 December 2010

No further news on the America's Cup venue decision except to say that we have been advised of more developments on Monday and Tuesday. As mentioned previously the expectation is that three more teams will be announced soon. We will bring you updates on www.sail-world.com/nz as they happen.

Progress is being made at Core Composites in Warkworth on the construction of the first wingsailed AC 45, expected to be sailing in Auckland in January 2011. In this edition of Sail-World we feature the latest images from the building facility 40 minutes drive, north of Auckland.

In Melbourne the first ISAF World Cup event for 2011 has been staged, with New Zealand coming away with just one medal. In the run up to the 2012 Olympics, a strong British team competed coming away with three Gold medals. We have reports from the event in this edition, next round is in Miami in late January 2011, with the ISAF Grade 1 event, Sail Auckland being sailed off the new venue, Takapuna in early February 2011.

Back on the America's Cup, we have the second part of Michelle Slade's interview with NZer Brad Webb, one of the three Kiwi's aboard USA-17 in the 33rd America's Cup. Here he looks ahead to the next America's Cup, issues if it is sailed in San Francisco and gives some advice to those who wish to crack into the America's Cup scene.

Thanks for your help and input, we're here to help sailing, and help those who wish to help themselves. Many thanks to those who have contributed to this edition.

Good sailing!
