It's this crazy time of year when sailing news comes from anywhere.
While Sail Melbourne is blown out today, the Etchells Pre-Nationals will be on this weekend, had a good yarn with the 2010 Etchells World Champion John Bertrand ahead of that, we will bring some extracts of that conversation tomorrow.
Tom Slingsby is a class act on and off the water today. Everyone was very impressed by his speech last night when he received his Rolex Sailor of the Year Award.
Sail-World USA continues to break the news about the AC defence. Read Gavin you've got Mail and more from Richard Gladwell.

America's Cup: Supes pass San Francisco's best bid for Venue Hosting

Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco have passed the recommendation from their Finance Committee for the Hosting of the 34th America's Cup. That plan, which was claimed by City officials to have been re-negotiated with BMW Oracle Racing since the weekend is for the so-called Northern Alternative, involving a set of Piers and infrastructure more to the north of the City.... Sail Melbourne - Strong winds cause cancellation of third day

After a delay this morning due to strong winds the Sail Melbourne race committee announced at 11.30am that racing at the ISAF Sailing World Cup had been called off for the day. The current winds, already gusting over 30 knots, are predicted to increase throughout the afternoon before moderating later this evening.... [more]

Phuket King's Cup 2010 - boats still on the beach

Since the multiple beaching of boats this morning, the tide has come up and is now on the ebb. All the multihulls (Thor, Pagatoon, Moto Inzi, Miss Saigon, Silk Purse) were sucessfully dragged, pushed and hauled up beyond the high water mark. Owners expect to reverse the process and refloat the boats when conditions have calmed down... maybe tomorrow.... [more]

Phuket King's Cup 2010: abnormal conditions hit fleet, update

The drama continues on Kata Beach this morning with seven boats on the break and four beached as racing is cancelled on the last day of the Phuket King's Cup. Many boats have already left the bay heading for shelter in Ao Chalong.
