Sail-World New Zealand: 11 November 2010

Blanca Manchón, ESP, ISAF World Female Sailor of the Year  Kurt Arrigo/Rolex
Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand newsletter for 11 November 2010

Most of the action so far this week has been off the water.

In this edition we have the announcement and images from Athens, Greece by the ISAF and Rolex of the Male and Female Sailor of the Year.

As advised earlier in the week and published by Sail-World.com a week before that, Artemis Racing have announced their entry in the 34th America's Cup, leaving just one of the new entries to declare themselves.

Staying with the America's Cup, San Francisco has announced a big step forward in their bid to secure the venue for the 34th America's Cup. In this issue we look at the developments and how the situation could shake down for San Francisco - against the other venues - which have also shrunk down to just one other option.

First hull being laid up in mould - AC 45 construction - Core Composites, Warkworth, November 2010  Richard Gladwell

On Tuesday, Sail-World paid another visit to Core Composites in Warkworth and we present an update on the manufacture of the new AC45. Core Composites are making very good progress, the boats are now being constructed outside Core Composites facilities, with several Auckland marine companies involved in this project.

In Athens, Greece the Annual Conference of the International Sailing Federation is underway. It is the first test of the world bodies resolve to implement the recommendations of the Olympic Commission, which suggested some very broad changes to the Olympic sailing regatta and its ancillary events.

The Multihull is back in the Olympics - so far.  Tornado Speed Sailing

Already some key decisions have been made, and we give our commentary on these. Suffice to say, it would seem that many in the sailing world do not realise the impact these decisions will have on the affected classes.

Stay tuned to www.sail-world.com for further developments from this watershed Conference.

Thanks for your help and input, we're here to help sailing, and help those who wish to help themselves. Many thanks to those who have contributed to this edition.

Good sailing!
