Route du Rhum action, videos and sailing news from around the globe

Welcome and this week's edition is full of news from the Route du Rhum.

Franck Cammas is showing pace at the head of the fleet but others have suffered boat damage. Actual, the Multi 50 skippered by Yves le Blevec has a damaged cross beam but is continuing on, Groupe Bel has been forced to withdraw from the race after suffering keel head mechanism damage while Oman Air Majan skipper Sidney Gavignet has been rescued. In other news participants in the Louis Vuitton Trophy Dubai have been out testing the sailing waters, the RC44's are headed for the USA and of course we can't forget the intrepid skippers of the Velux 5 Oceans, read all about their adventures this week.

Kiteboarders have made a claim for inclusion in the 2016 Olympics and we have a great video from the Finn Class.

At 0100hrs (CET) this morning (Monday) Yves le Blevec, skipper of the Multi 50 Actual informed his team and the Route du Rhum-La Banque Postale race director that the trimaran has sustained damage to the forward starboard cross beam. The situation is reported to have been stabilised.... [more]

South Africa makes it official: Vessels 'required' to carry EPIRBs

Oman Air Majan skipper safely onboard bulk carrier

After a long night for the Oman Air Majan team, they are pleased to report that skipper Sidney Gavignet is now safely onboard the bulk carrier Kavo Alexander. The incident which occurred at 1635 CET yesterday (03.11.10) was dealt with swiftly by the shore team, race management, rescue teams and crew of the Kavo Alexander who ensured Sidney's rescue within four hours or his first call....
