In this edition, we have the complete coverage of the 2010 Coastal Classic which started with a lot of promise of a smashed record, but in the end, the best laid plans of mice and men ...
Certainly there were some great performances particularly from the Rob Shaw designs.
Once again PredictWind was pretty much on the button with its forecast.
In this edition we have a gallery of images from the start including a complete gallery on TeamVodafoneSailing, as we paced her at almost 30kts as she slingshotted out of the Rangitoto Channel.

The first competitor meeting of the 34th America's Cup was held on Friday night (NZT) in Paris. the meeting was remarkable for its attendance - way more than expected by most Cup followers, but unfortunately there is no list of players being made publicly available.
After the meeting we caught up with America's Cup Regatta Director, Iain Murray, and got his thoughts and impressions of the meeting, and where the America's Cup game is headed from here.

We also have another look at the results from the America's Cup survey, now that we have 1,000 responses from Sail-World readers, some of the trends we saw in the first batch of the responses are still just as definite. But there is one call that is very loud and clear - almost unanimous.
On Thursday afternoon the five year plan for the New Zealand marine industry was presented showing a a period of significant growth despite a recession in the local and world economies which had hit superyacht production, in particular, very hard.

However that time would appear to be over with 11 orders placed with New Zealand yards in the past 11 months, and some very significant refit work also underway or completed.
We have a report on the meeting, and the projections for 2015 in this edition.

America's Cup Questionnaire: Checking in at the 1,000 response mark

Kiteboarder sets new NZ speed record of over 50kts
Auckland kite boarder Gavin Broadbent has smashed the existing national speed sailing record at the international Luderitz Speed Challenge for sail powered craft. At 50.93 knots, Broadbent has become the first NZ kiteboarder to break 50 knots - at the international competition on Namibia's coast, attended by 40 of the world's fastest speed sailors.... [more]

P and Starling North Island 2010 - Day 1 at Napier

Coastal Classic: Alfa Romeo's record stays intact

The ORMA60 TeamVodafoneSailing has missed breaking the record for 119nm Coastal Classic Race, after she failed to cross the finish line by 4.43pm today. Although TVS, a 60ft wingmasted trimaran, made good time from the start being clocked at close to 30kts at times, the wind faded as she neared Cape Brett at the entrance to the Bay of Islands and the finish off Russell.... Coastal Classic 2010 Forecast: Record gets harder - update

A series of wind and optimum course projections by www.predictwind.com shows that there is a good chance of the record for the Coastal Classic being shattered by the ORMA60, TVS. Based on a forecast compiled by PredictWind at 0900 Thursday 21st October and using software similar to that used to win the 32st and 32nd America's Cups, PredictWind.com expects the wind to be from a SW direction blow...
