Come One, Come All

For anyone contemplating a new boat—or even a new pair of deck shoes—Annapolis, Maryland is the place to be this weekend as the global sailing industry has congregated for the annual United States Sailboat Show.

United States Sailboat Show Annapolis  .. .

For us racers, several hot boats are available for the public to gawk longingly at; so far, show stoppers include the brand new J/111, the Extreme 25 and the Juan K-designed Beneteau First 30. Aftermarket shoppers won't be disappointed with the spacious tents filled with exciting new kit, including new goodies from Harken, Selden, Spinlock and Yale Cordage, to name just a few. If you're anywhere near Annapolis, be sure to check out the show. You won't be disappointed—it really is the greatest show in all the land when it comes to drooling over cool new boats and red-hot kit.

Yesterday we posted our Match Racing - Multihull or Monohull - Have you say!! survey Click here to do just that!! Getting lots of interesting responses. We look forward to hearing your views and you will be in the draw to win a Musto fleece.

In Bermuda, the competition rages at the Argo Gold Cup, with some surprises going into the qualifying sessions. In Valencia, Spain, Terry Hutchinson and his brilliantly sailed, American-flagged Quantum Racing are holding onto first place by a thin lead. Be sure to check out Sander van der Borch's eye-popping images from this highly competitive event, and keep your fingers crossed for 'Hutch' and crew. May this hyper-talented team continue to shine as the series progresses!

Also be sure to also click on lensman Paul Todd's gallery of images from the J/80 Worlds, which are drawing some of the planet's best sportboat sailors to Newport, Rhode Island's historic waters.

And for technophiles out there, a 2.0 version of the AC72 rule has now been released by Morrelli & Melvin on behalf of the Defender and the Challenger of Record.

Fair winds and following seas,

David Schmidt, Sail-World USA Editor
