Welcome to this special edition of Sail-World to bring you the latest information on the 34th America's Cup, announced a few hours ago in Valencia, Spain

In this edition we feature a review of the keypoints of the the new Protocol, the new America's Cup Class, the new America's Cup World Series, the Youth America's Cup and the year of the 34th America's Cup Match.

There will be a new boat type - for the first time in the America's Cup a rule will be written around a 72ft catamaran, capable of 20knots upwind. and a lot more than that downwind.

Bob Fisher gives his take on the media conference hosted in Valencia, and the impact of the new class.

We also feature some of the articles we have run in the past fortnight or so, which set the background for some of the decisions.

Also featured are summaries of the two media conferences - one in Valencia, which you can review on video; the other to a group of a dozen international media by BMW Oracle CEO, Russell Coutts.

Over 25,000 viewers tuned into the online streaming of the Media Presentation in Valencia, and this newsletter is being sent to over 85,000 subscribers worldwide.

The announcements today will come as a shock to many. Certainly they are a big change in thinking, whether they come off, remains to be seen.

Over the coming days we will feature reaction from the teams and key players on www.sail-world.com we feature a couple already. The unofficial word from Alinghi is that they will wait to see further detail before commenting.

Stay tuned!

Good sailing!
