Another Successful Port Credit Boat Show

With the late summer weather cooperating, the Port Credit In-Water Boat Show proved to be another successful event in 2010. Many yachts on display, both power and sails along with various seminars and information booths on land all contributed in ensuring that visitors were totally immersed in all things nautical. Yacht brokers were also pleased following better sales at the show than previous years. Congratulations to all who were involved!

The International C Class Catamaran Championships were hosted at New York Yacht Club in Newport, RI from August 22-28, 2010. The IC4 is the successor to the Little America's Cup as the championship event for the for the C class catamarans. After beating Australians Glenn Ashby and James Spithill on Alpha in the last day match race series, Canadians Fred Eaton and Magnus Clarke, on Canaan, were glorious and successful again in defending the International C-Class Catamaran Trophy that they first won in 2007.

Hayling Island in the UK is host to the 2010 World Laser Championships; the Canadian Senior team is struggling a bit against the strong European teams but there is still much racing to go; hopefully the conditions will stabilize over the next few days as they have been rather challenging in the early days of the event.

For those who, like me, can't get enough of international offshore racing events, you can set your sight on the upcoming Route du Rhum, the 8th episode of this highly successful single-handed transatlantic race is schedule for October 31st. The event is always interesting as it takes place every four years and offers many categories to follow; from the Open 60 and Class 40 mono hull yachts to the Multi 50 and Open multi hull. Hopefully, we can witness the same level of competition on the water that we saw in 2006 when Jourdain finished ahead of Le Cam by only 26 minutes after a little over 12 days of racing their Open 60's! The next other offshore event is the Barcelona World Race in December; the second edition of this two-handed non-stop round the world race is gaining popularity with racers and was highly appreciated by followers on shore in 2007-08, thanks to the latest communications technologies.

See you on the water!

When that flag came down the T flag went up to allow towing out to the race course.... [more]
