The America's Cup is back in the news with both end of the spectrum covered.
Back where it all started is the 1851 Cup - a trophy being contested between the current America's Cup Defenders, BMW Oracle Racing and the British team, TeamOrigin.
The event is being sailed off Cowes, Isle of Wight with a series of match races, and as we write the race around the Isle of Wight, which started the event now known as the America's Cup, is underway and proved, at least in its early stages to be a bit of a thriller.
You can see the racing live and in replay in our Sail.Tv story in this edition.
In the match racing BMW Oracle Racing has not fared too well, and it will be interesting to see how the America's Cup Defender fares in monohull competition.

At the other end of the America's Cup spectrum, one of the world's top sailing correspondents, Stuart Alexander breaks the story of some issues that have been vented in the would-be Challenger ranks as the wait continues for the Boat, Venue and Dates for the 34th America's Cup are worked through.
It is unclear, at this stage, whether the Defender will respond to these issues, or if they will be considered at some later time.

In this edition we are featuring an extract from long-time boat builder and designer, Jim Young's yet to be published book. He recalls the development of New Zealand's first canting keelboat, Firey Cross which he designed and built. It is an interesting read of an earlier era in New Zealand's design history. Young is perhaps better known for the highly popular Young88 design, one of New Zealand's most popular one design keelboats, and which featured a number of design innovations, as well as being a very sweet boat.
Coastguard Boating Education are offering day Skipper and Boatmaster courses which now lead to attainment of credits for NCEA. New Zealand is one of the few countries in the world, which offers sailing as a school subject and the courses from Coastguard Boating Education have a range of learning options to suit your individual preference and convenience. In the Netherlands, 14 year old New Zealand born Laura Dekker has set out, with her father, on a shakedown cruise to Portugal, prior to another circumnavigation attempt. We have the story in this edition.

The change is a big improvement and we have been using it ourselves for story and image compilation - very simple. TeamOrigin leads America's Cup Defender after second day in Cowes

After a light wind first afternoon race in 8 knots, the wind accelerated to 15-18 knots and the Extreme 40s were off – power reaching at speeds of 20-25 knots.
