Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand newsletter for 16 July 2010
Outstanding news frpm the IFDS Worlds in Medemblijk with the news that the New Zealand SKUD18 have qualified for the 2012 Paralympics. Joshua Mackenzie-Brown finished in the top half of the 2.4 singlehander fleet, a great effort. We have reports from both teams in this edition of Sail-World, along with some excellent image galleries from Sander van der Borch on the three classes sailed.
We need to correct a statement made in the last edition. Mackenzie-Brown isn't the first New Zealander to sail in the singlehanded 2.4 at this level. In fact, New Zealand qualified for the 2008 Paralympics in the 2.4mR Class at the IFDS Worlds regatta in Perth 2006. No representative was sent to Qingdao. New Zealand was also represented at the 2000 Paralympics in Sydney, and has been represented at a number of other major events including the Open 2.4mR Worlds. Well done to everyone!

New Zealand's fortunes fluctuate at the Volvo ISAF Youth Worlds in Turkey. We have all the available reports in this edition, and with one day left in the regatta, New Zealand is sitting on podium places in two classes. Latest news will be published on www.sail-world.com on Saturday morning.
New Zealand is also performing well in the Womens 470 Worlds, with another crew well positioned, at this stage for a podium position. We have the Yachting NZ reports in this edition, along with those from some of the overseas sailors.

In the America's Cup the Monohull/Multihull Trials are gearing up in Valencia, we are carrying the official statement from the Golden Gate Yacht Club in this edition and will post other information on www.sail-world.com as it comes to hand. We understand that there will not be a New Zealand representative at the trials.

Delta Lloyd 470 World Championships - Weather continues to wreak havoc

The boats were sent out in the morning only for conditions to prove far too brisk for the majority of the fleet, which were duly sent home. With wind against tide further increasing the severity of the waves in the afternoon, it wasn't until the early evening that the final races of the qualification series could be held and even then this was only possible in the two Women's groups.... 470 World Championships 2010 - Belcher and Page lead into Finals

Weymouth and Portland facilities unavailable for non-contracted teams

49er European champion Peter Greenhalgh interview

Peter Greenhalgh and Chris Draper launched their 2012 49er campaign in March 2009 after both men had spent time away from the Olympic Classes scene concentrating on other forms of sail racing.
