Welcome to Sail-World Canada

Canada's Sailing Season in Full Swing

Last week, Kingston, Ontario hosted more than 200 sailors from more than 20 countries at the Optimist North American Championship hosted by CORK.

On Canada's west coast, the Vic-Maui 2010 race is in progress and yachts are now heading south to find the trade winds.

Tomorrow, Sail-World Canada will be attending Day One of the Big Sound Challenge, hosted by Sail Parry Sound. This event serves as a training regatta for young sailors and coaches and is put on to help grow Canada's sailing community. The event includes four days of elite coaching from Ontario Sailing's finest, as well as a social agenda showcasing the beauty and fun to experience in and around Parry Sound. In 2009, its first year, this event was recognized by the Canadian Yachting Association receiving Recreational Event of the Year Award.

10 days or so from now, Port Credit Yacht Club will play host to three major sailing events: the Lake Ontario 300; 52nd Annual Steerers` Regatta; and the 2010 Four Sisters Regatta.

Stay tuned for more stories and photos as Canada continues to host premier sailing events from coast to coast!

Happy sailing!

Distance Racing - West Coast Style
David Schmidt, Sail-World USA Editor,
Every area has its classic distance race: On the east coast, the storied Newport-Bermuda commands the loftiest perch of all American offshore races, but here on the west coast we have our own traditions as well. Being shy of an island that's 'only' 635 nautical miles offshore, our sailors have to race a bit further, but when the destination is Hawaii, it's hard to complain.... [more]
