Korea's ambition, Garrett anti-whaling clip, Abby Sunderland fund

Another hectic week in the wide world of marine. We have a host of new launches - superboats, superb new models from Riva, Fairline, Capelli RIBs and Jeaneau, as well as our main features this week: all the news from the Korea International Boat Show.

Our intrepid Sail-world.com correspondent, Guy Nowell was there and observed the audacious ambition of the central government and provinces to make South Korea a major global force in recreational boating. They have a five and 10-year plan, and as Guy says: 'if anyone can smother a country's coastline in marinas, and use them to kick-start a quantum shift in a nation's leisure habits, then Korea can'. Fascinating and plenty of opportunity for international businesses focused on helping with infrastructure and implementation.

Also in Asia, the Vietnam Match Cup slated to take place in Nha Trang (21-26 September) has been cancelled – or at best postponed by a year.

Did you know this year marks 100 years since the birth of marine and environmental legend, Jacques Cousteau? He was a hero in our lounge rooms in the 60s and 70s, inspiring us with his underwater exploration of wrecks, treasures, submarine creatures and even then, the message of preservation of our planet. I wrote him a letter when I was just eight-years old, 'c/o The Calypso, somewhere in the Pacific', to confide in him my ambition to be a marine biologist. Now on the centenary of his birth, his wife, son and foundation that bears his name are working together to declare The Calypso an internationally significant artefact and preserve it. Go online and share your thoughts.

This is your last chance to enter the PredictWind subs competition, offering 10 one-year Professional Forecast Packages (each valued at nearly $1000).

We are looking ahead to the Melbourne Boat Show 1-5 July and Sydney 29 July - 2 August, as well as plenty of other events and activities worldwide, so keep visiting for updates and previews.

Have a great week!
