A strong spurt in growth of new regattas and races on the Australian circuit these days - year Club Marine Brisbane to Keppel, Sail Port Stephens, Sunferries Magnetic Island Race Week- all just a few years old, yet there will be 200+ boats in these events in 2010.

Lots of news from Port Stephens this weekend wile the NOR's for Keppel and Magnetic Island are on line now.

Long Range weather positive for SOS Ocean Racing Record Attempt

SOS Ocean Racing's World Record Attempt for sailing around Australia solo non-stop unassisted looks set to depart on May 1st if the long range weather forecast proves to be correct. Apriori leads Tasman yacht race pack Into Mooloolaba

Trevor Hill sailed his 11.6m Farr designed Apriori across the 2010 Fitzroy Yachts Solo Tasman Challenge finish line at Mooloolaba at midnight (NZST) yesterday to take the first monohull home title. On Margaret Rintoul V the barbecue was fired up and the delicious smell of sausages wafted around the start. Many, including those on Holy Cow (John and Kim Clinton) from Sydney, cracked open beers and the bread rolls came out as crews relaxed on deck, finding it a little hard to get going when Thompson finally announced shortly before 2pm that racing was getting underway in the light sou'easter.... The rush to get to the start of the 62nd First Tax & Duty Free Brisbane to Gladstone was amazing. I have never felt so under prepared to go sailing however I really wanted to be with the fleet and this kept me pushing through.
