Sail-World USA: 11 April 2010
 | | Vincitore - Charleston Race Week 2010 Charleston Race Week | Welcome to Sail-World.Com's US newsletter for 11 April 2010.
Charleston Race Week is underway, with 1500 sailors competing in 15 classes. We have reports on the first two day's racing in this edition.
Big breezes have prevailed for the regatta, with big seas on the menu for the larger offshore racers who competed outside the harbor.
As expected, USA's Ken Read and PUMA Racing have announced they are going again in the 2011/12 Volvo Ocean Race, and will be looking to better the second place from the 2008/09 event.
This coming week another major team is expected to announce their entry into the Volvo OR. Currently there are four teams officially announced, including Round the World record holder, Franck Cammas and Groupama.

However time is marching on, and would-be teams are getting close to the go-no-go point, if they are to design and build a new yacht. It remains to be seen how many of the yachts from the 2008/09 Volvo are picked up for the 2011/12 event, rather than just used as trainers for some of the more well-heeled teams - albeit with a 110 sailing day limitation on their use.
But back to PUMA Racing - will USA become the first nation to hold both the America's Cup and the Volvo Trophy? That would be an interesting prospect.
