Tough but someone has to do it
Powerboat-World editor Bob Wonders is in Florida for the Miami Boat Show last week and is now on his way home. Bob will be providing detailed updates on the state of the North American by the end of this week.
Our Sail-World America's Cup Editor Richard Gladwell did his fair share of power boating last week.
It's mid-winter in the Med and during the America's Cup racing Richard was 20-40 miles offshore in a fast 30 foot rib, powering along with two 225 hp motors providing the grunt.
 | | Heading for the Darcena after the Final race, 33rd America's Cup Richard Gladwell | On Friday the Sail-World photo boat ran some 100 nautical miles following BMW Oracle, the 90 foot trimaran with the towering 220 foot rigid wing and Alinghi, the 90 foot catamaran.
Flat seas, so not too much bumping, but following the two giant America's Cup multihulls which are blasting along at 25-33 knots in less than eight knots of breeze is not at all easy.
The wind chill factor is the problem, with air temperature at 6-7 degrees centigrade and 30 knots plus of breeze. Two wet weather jackets, thermals and more kept Richard warm for race one, but it was cold for race 2.
Sadly this week we have news of two boating deaths, one in the Southern 80 yesterday and a Queensland powerboat driver rolling last weekend.
Bob will come back with better news soon, but right now there is a lot here for you to read.
