The Round the World Power Boat record holder has been sunk
So, where do we go from here?
The former ‘Earthrace', now the ‘Ady Gil', the innovative bio-diesel powered multihull that raced around the world in 60 days, fuelled by bio-diesel has been sunk, she took on water under tow, after coming off worst in a collision with a 1000 tonne Japanese whaler.
 | | Ady Gil has now sunk | Much to the dismay of many, the Australian and New Zealand Government appear to be powerless. Sure, some politicians are ‘bleating', but we're still waiting for some firm action.
I'm not here to pass any judgement – I was not there so I can only rely on what we've heard and seen via video.
Take a look at the video and form your own opinion.
I'll just close this particular discussion by saying that I am dead set against this so-called ‘scientific program' of whale killing by the Japanese.
Other news, well, some good, some not so good.
We go with the good – Australia will host the inaugural UIM World championships for Unlimited Displacement boats next October, while Victoria's Glenmaggie and District Boat Club saw 2010 off to a very good start.
Not so good – well, NSW Maritime has issued a warning (a warning it should not have to issue in my opinion) to boaters when re-fuelling. Two fires, one at a marina the other on board a vessel re-fuelling. This is an operation that while necessary demands care, at all times.
Finally, the first part of our promised series aimed at helping and encouraging the first time boat buyer.
Hope you agree with the points we've made and we're happy to receive any comments you'd care to make.
Safe boating, see you next week.
Bob Wonders
