Looking down the list of stories on today's newsletter, you'd be forgiven for thinking that the Rolex Sydney Hobart Race was the only thing that had happened in the last five days. Well, that's about the measure of it!

Neville Crighton's 100' super-maxi Alfa Romeo led from start to finish, and Grant Wharington's Etihad Stadium – with hastily acquired and fitted mast – decided that discretion was the better (and possibly cheaper) part of valour and didn't get to the first mark. After four unchallenged years at the front of the fleet, Wild Oats XI is the bridesmaid, and ICAP Leopard became an also-ran. Now the ‘smaller' boats are finishing, and the battle for handicap honours is on.

And just keep our feet firmly planted in Asia, take a look at the beautiful little SC20 recently launched in Xiamen, China. She's one of the new generation of dayboats that marry traditional looks with modern design and materials – the best of both worlds. Enjoy.
