Sail-World USA: 8 November 2009

Close up of broken mast section from BOR90 after the dismasting of BOR90 in San Diego
i>Welcome Sail-World.Com's US newsletter for 8 November 2009

The Louis Vuitton Trophy is into its second day in Nice, France, with eight teams competing including three who competed in the 2007 America's Cup.

Racing was restricted to just two completed flights on the first day, when light winds failed to freshen as forecast, a full card was sailed on the second day, and organizers expect to have the full fleet of four yachts operating for the remaining rounds after one of the supplied yachts was seriously damaged in training.

In this issue we have several reports from the event. A team that is being watched with real interest is Artemis with USA'a Terry Huchinson on the helm and Paul Cayard in the afterguard.

Emirates Team NZ set up to leeward of Team French Spirit on the second match of the first day of racing in the Louis Vuitton Trophy at Nice   ARL Media

The event sets a significant new benchmark in sailing with the first ever web broadcast using a mix of Virtual Eye and video, backed up with a superb commentary from Peter Lester and various media guests. While we are used to seeing this quality of broadcast on television, this standard is a first on the web, and one that runs without the usual stuttering reception that has been the bane of web broadcasting to date.

We will keep updating the results from this series on www.sail-world.com or you can see the action live for yourself on www.louisvuittontrophy.com

Publicly all is quiet on the America's Cup with various meetings underway in New York to try to resolve the impasse ahead of Justice Shirley Kornreich 'going arbitrary' on the venue, in a written decision expected next Wednesday. At that time too, the other matters raised by Kornreich just over a week ago should also be resolved.

While the offer of an eastern Australian venue was made by Societe Nautique de Geneve, it seems that Valencia will be the venue - by mutual agreement or not.

Many thanks for your help and input, we're here to help sailing, and help those who wish to help themselves.

Good sailing!
