Editorial

It's a rather sombre edition this week, with the recreational boating industry and the yachting community still in a state of shock with the recent passing of Andrew Short, Sally Gordon (both accidentally killed) and Bob Lane (succumbed to a heart attack).

We pay tribute as best we can to all three.

Last weekend the ski race fraternity was ‘at war' with the annual staging of the popular Grafton Bridge to Bridge held on the mighty Clarence River, in far northern New South Wales.

And Coniston Water sometimes referred to as Lake Coniston, ancestral home of water speed records, is back in the news with some more record attempts in the offing.

It was here, of course, that the great Donald Campbell, son of the late Sir Malcolm Campbell, lost his life when his ‘Bluebird' crashed as it approached 300mph (483km/hr).

Australia is playing host at present to the World Masters Games and in Sydney NSW Maritime has freely granted the necessary aquatic licences to the organisers for the on-water events.

Even His Royal Highness, Prince Frederik, of Denmark, is among the competitors.

Meanwhile, following the disastrous tsunami which decimated some of the Pacific Island nations, UNESCO is investigating the possibility of tsunami warning systems being implemented across the Indian Ocean.

Plenty of news, too, from Formula 1 and P1 Powerboats and right here is where you'll keep up with all the news that matters.

In closing, all at the Tetra Media Group, encompassing Powerboat-World, Sail-World and MarineBusiness-World extend sincere condolences to the Short, Gordon and Lane families.
