More Canadian news and readers with new strategic alliance

Sail-World regions  .
Sail-World, already the largest online marine news network in the world, continues to expand at a rapid rate, and this week we welcome more Canadian readers and news with a new strategic alliance.

In the wake of tragic tsunamis in the Pacific in the last couple of weeks, 18 Indian Ocean countries yesterday tested their tsunami warning systems. The message for sailors in port when a tsunami strikes is clear. When the water drops, get out, get out now, and get out fast.

16-year-old Australian Jessica Watson is in the last days of preparation to depart from Sydney on her non-stop unassisted round-world journey that will take her into the frigid windy waters of the Southern Ocean and Cape Horn. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau's preliminary report on her collision with a ship on her first night at sea has been delayed until 20th October, and she's not likely to wait for it. There's also a puzzle on exactly which record she is trying to beat. She won't be recognised by the World Speed Sailing Record Council (WSSRC) who has discontinued such recognition since Jesse Martin's circumnavigation. Watch Sail-World Cruising for new stories on Jessica as they break....

Rallies, rallies, rallies. This is the era of the rally. Cruising sailors are showing how much they love rallies by the number that are springing up all over the world. A rally seems to perfectly combine the comaraderie of shared experiences with the glorious freedom that most sailors love. This week you can read about them in the Pacific, in the Med, in Asia, in the Caribbean and also one that goes round the world. Wherever you are, there's a rally within reach.

Here's also the final article on 'Collision at sea - the unthinkable', and you can go back and read the earlier articles with easy links from the story. It's information that all sailors who leave the dock should have.

Then there are the sailing tales – breezy days with Balvenie in the Med and a comically harrowing tale of Ocean Watch caught going the wrong way in a Gulf Stream gale – they're headed for the Horn too.

There's something for everyone, so browse through the stories and choose what interests you

Sweet sailing!
