Sail-World USA: 8 September 2009

Another big payday for the young BlackMatch Racing team in St Moritz  World Match Racing Tour ©
Welcome Sail-World.Com's USA newsletter for 8 September 2009

America's Cup Legal took another unfortunate turn last week, with the filing of an Appeal with the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court. A decision there can lead to a further level of Appeal in the New York Court of Appeal.

We cover this issue in today's edition, however what we haven't mentioned is that potentially consideration of this Appeal could alter the dates of the 33rd Match provisionally set for Ras al Khaimah on 8 February 2010. A slide in that date does have areal impact on the date for the 34th Match - which was expected to be a Multi Challenger event set down for July 2011. Miss that window and the next Match dates are really in July 2013 - which is way too far for the financial resources, of most, if not all other teams.

Official invitation Louis Vuitton World Series in Paris

For that reason the announcement in Paris in a few hours of the Louis Vuitton World Series, and the World Sailing Teams Association (WSTA). The official advises that parties present will be The Mayor of Nice, the President of Louis Vuitton and the CEO of Emirates Team New Zealand, Grant Dalton, speaking for the WSTA. We have been told that all the details of WSTA will be announced at the media conference. It is a fair bet from the attendance of the Mayor of Nice, at a media conference in Paris, that his fine city will be the first host for the new event. Auckland is widely predicted to be part of the same Series with an event in March 2010.

Given the America's Cup Appeal, and the implications of that in terms of future events, the Paris announcement now takes on a much more serious role as a lifeline for the embattled professional sailing teams.

We will have full coverage of the event on www.sail-world.com tomorrow.
