When does a sailing season start, and when does it end? Really? And does it matter? The RHKYC officially ‘ends' its season in April, and then runs a Sunshine Series and a Sunset Series through the summer. Hebe Haven Yacht Club's flagship event, the Typhoon Series – one of the biggest racing series' in Hong Kong – right through the summer months. And then the Aberdeen Boat Club has an Opening Regatta a week before the RHKYC has (their) Opening Regatta.

Adam Minoprio (NZL) has scrambled back to the top of the World Match Race Tour rankings with a win in St Moritz. And his opponent in the final was another antipodean youngster, Torvar Mirsky (AUS). Those lads from down south certainly know a thing or two about match racing...

And Paul Cayard knows a thing or two about common sense – please read his words of wisdom. Russell Coutts' walking away from Alinghi looks smarter every day. Probably most of us reckon we could sort out the America's Cup nonsense on the back of an envelope in five minutes and a couple of beers (I'm damn sure I could) – but then we aren't Swiss billionaires, are we?
