Two more yacht clubs in China? Let's hope the Jumeira Group has asked the PLA navy whether they mind assorted yachties in close proximity to the rumoured new nuclear sub base near Sanya - always assuming there are lots of yachties to fill those clubs (which may not happen for a while yet, going by the current "development" of boating in China). Jumeira, suggest you don't hold your breath..

One for all you offshore sailors - don't skip the radio skeds (especially if you are racing Sydney-Southport) - unless you want to get penalised. It's 2009 for heavens' sake - the era of mobile phones, sat phones, the internet, and more initials associated with communications than you can even remember - DSC, INMARSAT, MRCSS, EPIRB, the list goes on. And you can't radio a position back to race control? Better try harder now.

Sensation in Sydney Southport Race as Radio sked penalties kick in

The National Jury heard four protests and three statutory declarations. Rod Jones' Archambault 40 Algeria was given a 20% scoring penalty of their placing for failing to report during a radio sked. Ray Sweeney's Sydney 38 Mondo and Bruce Mackay's Sayer 12 Wasabi were also given the same penalty for failing to report during a radio sked.... [more]
