Attention-grabbers today are the (apparent) attempts by Alinghi to orchestrate changes to the new RRS which come out next year - with the suspicion that they may have built their new cat to suit rules that the rest of the world (including BMW Oracle) don't even know about yet. Ouch.

Then there's the Volvo Youth Worlds - seven classes won by seven different nations (including Hong Kong and Singapore), some sensational pics on board the 'BORacle Beast', and a poignant few words from recently-ex-Puma skipper, Kenny Read.

Lifelong shipbuilder scales it down a bit
Chris Smith / The Press Democrat,
Through most of his 83 years, Stuart Purvis has built boats, gorgeous ones. An early creation was a beauty, but a tad too big. The year was 1941 and Purvis was 15 when he set out to build and sell an 18-foot runabout power boat in the basement of his family's home in Burnaby, east of Vancouver. The process involved constructing a hull upside-down, then flipping it and building the craft's topside.... [more]
