Yacht departs Southport - see the pictures and believe

This 'sailor' decided to commence a passage from Southport in south east Queensland in Australia to Yeppoon, a small town on the central Queensland coast, yesterday. The forecast was seas 9 to 10 mtrs with a storm warning with winds that had at times been recorded at 61 kts at the seaway. He attempted to go out the seaway at 3pm yesterday.... [more]

Golden Gate Yacht Club would seem to have made a rare error in their almost two year long battle with the America's Cup Defender, Societe Nautique de Geneve. In their letter to the Defender, dated 20 May 2009, GGYC stated: 'We assert that the Deed does not permit you to race a two-masted yacht, given that our Challenge Certificate describes a single-masted yacht.'... Rolex Capri Sailing Week 2009 moved into its second day. Peter Reggio, the principal race officer, kept the fleet ashore for two hours to allow a westerly breeze to fill in. The Farr 40s got in two races, the remaining fleets raced only once. Farr 40 racing is always tight and no more so than in the lead-up to the world championship. There is little room for error....
