Sail-World New Zealand: 8th April 2009

'Waitangi' greats another day in a racing career dating from 1894 on the Mahurangi Harbour. - Aquapx.com web site launch  Paul Gilbert
Welcome to Sail-World.Com's NZ newsletter for 8th April 2009

We all know that still rivers run deep, and so it is with the silence on the America's Cupscene, after the Appeal Court announcement last Friday.

No-one has been saying too much, and today in an interview with Louis Vuitton Pacific Series Event Director, Bruno Trouble, we can reveal why.

The ball is firmly in Alinghi's and Ernest Bertarelli's court over the shape of the 33rd America's Cup. If he elects to run with a Multihull Match, then there will be some good outcomes for the other teams, who will then be free agents.

Part of the 40 strong Mistral 50th Jubilee fleet  Dave Woods

And, if he decides to accept the offer from BMW Oracle Racing for a Multi-Challenger event, then another set of opportunities go on the table, which could see the America's Cup into even more of a sporting spectacle than it is already> Well, leading up to July 2007, anyway.

We also have the doyen of sailing journalists, Bob Fisher, give his views on what should happen for the next America's Cup.

There was no racing for most classes on the third day of the Princess Sofia Trophy  Nico Martinez

In Palma, the Princess Sofia Trophy is underway. Sort of. Two day's racing has been undertaken, with the third lost to light winds. This is the third event in the ISAF World Cup, and a vital starting point for the new Olympic campaigns.

You can get started in your Olympic campaign for free by entering Sail-World's new competition to Win a Laser, click on the link, or see the entry details button on the top right hand corner of the Sail-World website.

New Series likely to be set up Inside or Outside America's Cup
Richard Gladwell,
Bruno Trouble: 'We would love to continue and organize a few Louis Vuitton Series type regattas, either outside or as a complement to the America's Cup circuit.'
