Luxury launches, Tinnie Show sets records, recession end in sight

I hope this week finds you and your business healthy and brimming with optimism.

As the PM jets off to meet Mr Obama – oh to be a fly on the wall for that encounter! – we who remain, beneficiaries of the government's 'rescue remedy' of $900 each tax payer, can only hope the US financial forecasters are on the money when they predict an end to the recession by the end of 2009.

Wall St shares skyrocketed this morning and our stock market is predicted to follow. US Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben Bernanke's appearance on CBS' 60 Minutes on Sunday night was unprecedented. Most commentators believe it was a patent attempt to instill confidence in the US population.

His pronouncement that the recession in the US could end this year drew cautious relief and some skepticism from economic analysts the world over, but it is welcome news.

He said during the interview: 'I do think that we will get it stabilized, and we'll see the recession coming to an end probably this year [and] we'll see recovery beginning next year.'

If the US does come out of recession by the end of the year and recover in 2010, the rest of the world can expect to follow suit about six months behind.
We can only hope.

This week on MarineBusinessNews.com we feature mostly great-news stories – launches, glow in the dark technology, acquisitions and innovative products.

WA phenomenon, Oceanfast (part of the Austal group) has added a US$22m vessel to its range. The Oceanfast 48 is 48ft of luxury, boasts a speed of 16 knots and range of 4,000nm at 12 knots and will be available from July 2009. More at www.oceanfast.com.au

We also profile the Abu Dhabi concept from new company Emocean, known as the Voodoo27, which aims to produce an ambitious 400 boats per year, despite the world's constricting finances.

Keep in touch with your own news and views. Have a great week!
