Welcome to your Sail-world.com/eu Newsletter for week ending 7 December.

Britain's Ian Williams retained his World Match Racing title, while Australian Peter Gilmour of Yanmar Racing, won the final event of the season, The Monsoon Cup. Gilmour won ahead of Kiwi Adam Minoprio of ETNZ/Black Match Racing.

Other leading the news item unfortunately is Unai Basurko who has been forced to drop out of the Vendee Globe with rudder box problems. Better news for Italy's Carlo Alberini on Calvi Network who is in third place after six races at the Melges 32 Gold Cup in the USA.

We also have the finishing reports and images from the Volvo Ocean Race and the spectacular images of British speed sailing craft Vestas Sailrocket, piloted by Australian Paul Larsen, which become the worlds fastest sailing ‘boat' by attaining an average speed over the 500 meter record course of 47.4 knots - and then took off . . . .
