Latest Marine Business News
The Club Marine Mandurah Boat Show – among Australia's top 5 most appealing boat shows according to brands large and small – has been and gone. Like the rest of the shows, Mandurah experienced a decline in visitor numbers, but organizers and several exhibitors report adequate sales and pleasing leads.
As well as a round up of Mandurah, this week we cover the marine industry's top stories from around Australia and the world, including news of the Emirates Boat Show, from 25 to 29 November 2008 in Abu Dhabi, the latest in piracy warnings, and details of the latest casualty of the economic crisis in the US – Brunswick Corporation closing three US Marine plants permanently, resulting in the elimination of 1,450 jobs.
On a brighter note, 30 developers met with the State Government to flesh out plans for a “marine highway” between the Gold Coast and Brisbane, which would include marinas and other commercial projects at up to 10 stops along the channel between Southport and southern Moreton Bay. The grand scheme is to turn the Gold Coast into Australia's marine capital.
Also in Qld, Bellingham Marine Australia was recently congratulated for its low carbon marina industries business, with a Ministerial presentation in Queensland Parliament. Bellingham is leading the industry, one which will be adversely affected by global warming. The MIAA has set a goal of a 20% reduction in the operational carbon footprint of Australian Marinas by 2015.
On another positive note, jobs are plentiful for people willing to relocate to Darwin or Nowra. Darwin marine businesses are losing staff to the mining industry and would like to hear from southerners looking for a lifestyle and livelihood change.
Down south, just two hours from Sydney, Azzura Marine Nowra is seeking skilled personnel to join its boat building team to work on Marten Yachts and Sydney Yachts brands. There are openings for Designers, Draftspeople, Boat Builders, Fitters, Cabinet Makers, Engineers and Systems Installers at all levels of experience.
Hope you enjoy this week's stories. Take the time to check throughout the week, as we update daily as news happens.
