Editorial, July 15, 08.

Some big weeks ahead for the boating community.

Riviera launches its 70 footer ahead of the Sydney Boat Show. And I bet you thought Beneteau only made sailboats, right? Wrong! Take a look at the Beneteau Swift Trawler 52, a decidedly class act destined to impress at the Sydney International Boat Show (July 31-August 5).

Speaking of the show don't stand in line for your tickets, book on-line. We have the Boating stage program list online now.

A great power boat racing week. From the Tunisian Grand Prix to the awesome hydroplanes at the Detroit Gold Cup, you'll find all the action right here on Powerboat-World.

Tom Barry-Cotter and Pal Virik Nilson, the reigning Australian Class I Offshore Champions have gained a wild card entry into the Norwegian Grand Prix, while Italy's ace throttleman Matteo Nicolini forsakes Class I to contest the popular Powerboat P1 in Tunisia.

Over the last few weeks our sister publication Sail-World has been reporting on the green algae which has been causing havoc in Qingdao China, with hundreds of thousands of tonnes of the stuff on the Olympic sailing course. But algae is something boaters may get to love not hate, as it converts carbon dioxide to bio-diesel fuel. Worth a read.

As our online traffic continues to expand, we've been investing in larger and faster computer servers and by Christmas we will be sending out 30,000 Powerboat-World newsletters each week.

You may notice loading our site is faster than before and you will notice also we have 33 stories on our home page, so you can see the week's news at a glance.

BTW - If you are in the market for serious boating clothing and you are in Sydney you need to go to Sturrock's Boatique in Mosman, they are having their first ever sale.

Note too ... There are boating restrictions on Sydney Harbour for the Pope's aquatic excursions.
