There was going to be an F1 Superboat race series in Newcastle this coming weekend, with practice tomorrow and racing on Sunday.
As wild weather lashes the Hunter Coast, race organisers are worried about the surge and wind in Newcastle Harbour.
The weather is definitely wild. There are three bulk carriers in trouble. One of the 30 off the New South Wales port of Newcastle has broken its moorings and run onto the beach. With 700 tonnes of fuel oil onboard, the Pasha Bulker presents a possible pollution risk. Latest news is that two more of the bulk coal carriers off Stockton Beach are dragging their anchors in the wild weather.
Back to regular boating. I owned a Fjord powerboat for 20+ years, but it was nothing like the astonishing new Fjord Open 40 at Sanctuary Cove. This is a must see boat – the next chance will be at Sydney International Boat Show. Have a look at the story and pictures on Powerboat-world now.
Lots of sport and boating news this week. The fight over 17 tonnes of silver recovered from an Atlantic Shipwreck continues. We preview the F1 and Offshore Powerboats events and we have reports from the Game Fishing World Titles and the Water Ski Worlds.
Up here on the Gold Coast, the weather had settled, but it does not look like much of a boating weekend down south.
