All competing countries then participated in a 'mixing of the waters' ceremony in which the waters from each of the 17 participating countries were mixed in a glass urn before being carried into the regatta waters and added to the Hauraki Gulf.... 2006 IODA World Sailing Championship Montevideo

Fifty countries represented by some 230 sailors in the 2006 IODA World Sailing Championship in Montevideo, Uruguay which started on December 29. The great turnout is a massive increase on the last time, fourteen years ago, that the Worlds were also at Christmas, also in South America (in Mar del Plata, Argentina) when there were just 133 sailors from 29 countries....
