New boat brands and models to headline Brisbane Boat Show

by Marine Queensland on 20 Aug 2013 A flotilla of new boating brand names and boat models, many of the manufactured locally in Queensland, as well as new personal and recreational watercraft, will be major drawcards for this year’s Brisbane Boat Show.

Multiple models from more than 50 different boat brands will be displayed including many 'first timer' fibreglass, pressed aluminium and alloy plate boats.

Most have been completed, but in a couple of instances, manufacturers are working hard to complete the models in time for the show which opens on Friday, September 6 at the redeveloped RNA Showgrounds at Bowen Hills on the northern edge of the Brisbane CBD.

New line-ups making their public debuts include:

• Procraft fibreglass 5.3 metre cuddy cab; 5.8m Coastal, 6.2m Weekender and 6.2m Walk-around models which are being manufactured by Coastal Powerboats based at Burleigh on the Gold Coast. The fibreglass range joins the company’s existing range of Procraft aluminium boats which were released earlier this year. Fibreglass stringers are used throughout the fibreglass boat range which also has foam filled underfloor areas and full fibreglass cockpit liners.

• The Queensland debut of the New Zealand series of Extreme Alloy plate boats which range from the 460 centre console to the Game King 950 deep sea fishing boat. The Karee Marine stand will display the Game King 610 and the Game King 570. The brand is a frequent winner of Alloy Boat Of The Year titles in New Zealand and according to Trevor Rowe from Karee Marine, the brand is that country’s most awarded manufacturer over the past five years.

• The new, locally built Clark 545 Challenger cuddy cab which also will be displayed on the Karee Marine stand

• The Aluvan Warrior 438 side console and Javelin five metre aluminium models will be unveiled by Brisbane Yamaha.

• The Ozcraft 640 which is a new model in a range of custom plate boats being built exclusively for Brisbane Yamaha.

• The Yellowfin 6400 Synergy Centre Console on Springwood Marine’s stand.

• Next year’s Four Winns H180RS sports boat which also will be on Springwood Marine’s stand.

• The Bar Crusher 615C featuring the second generation hull which has been developed after an 18 months research program. The new hull which will be on the Stones Corner Marine stand, features a wider negative chine running forward, a wider chine aft, the distinctive Delta Flare for greater lift, more efficient planing and improved fuel economy; a higher bow attitude and better spray deflection. Stones Corner Marine also will have the 615WR and a 575C models on display as well as the award winning 670HT plate alloy with its Waveslicer deep vee hull. The Bar Crusher Bar Catch single retrieval system which now is standard on all factory-packaged trailers, will be another drawcard to see on the stand.

• Australian Master Marine’s latest 7.8 metre Tournament series hardtop which also will serve as a practical test bed for the company’s first twin engine installation of Yamaha’s new F200hp G series of outboards.

• Sailfish S7 enclosed glass hardtop Limited Edition aluminium catamaran featuring a lockable rear door for a secured wheelhouse.

• Honda’s new range of inflatable tenders ranging from two to three metres and which have three different floor versions: a slatted deck; an aluminium deck and a new air V-floor version. They will be displayed on the stand of Honda’s newest dealership, Bay Honda.

• The new side console version of the alloy Blaze 450 Edge which will be displayed on the Cunningham Marine Centre stand along with the first of the Chinese-built Trailcrafts; upgraded models in the Bluefin range of aluminium boats and the Melbourne-built Revival fibreglass boats ranging from 5.2 metres to 6.4 metres in length. Star of the Revival range will be the release of a new 580 model specifically targetting the fishing fraternity.

• The first Queensland public appearance of Malibu’s new squared bow model – the MXZ 20 Wakesetter featuring a massive forward seating area. It’s a specialist craft for the ski, board and wake fanatics and comes complete with dial-in surf gates. The surf gates are adjustable flaps which redirect the flow of water to create an endless wave that can be ridden on a wake surfer without the need to hang on to a tow rope. It will be on the Northside Marine stand along with updated Stabicraft and Surtees models and the new diesel powered Whittley CR2800.

Renowned Queensland boat manufacturer, CruiseCraft, which has been at every boat show in conjunction with Wynnum Marine since the first show was held at the RNA Showgrounds in 1962, is working hard to complete the company’s first Explorer 625 hardtop model to market alongside its existing Explorer 685 hardtop.

With orders already in place for the boat before the project has even been completed, the new model is starting on the right course in terms of following the success of its larger sistership, which among other awards, was voted Australia’s best offshore fibreglass fishing boat by Trailer Boat magazine. The stand’s display also will include a Explorer 685 hardtop; Outsider and Explorer 595’s, an Outsider 625 and Explorer 530. All will feature factory installations of various Yamaha motors.

Yamaha Motor Australia will be displaying the all new four stroke 4.2 litre F200G for the first time in Brisbane. It is the largest capacity, but lightest weight 200 horsepower four stroke in its class – even lighter than the F150. The G series outboards are fitted with the Reliance SDS props with a shift dampener shift mechanism to eliminate the traditional ‘clunk’ when shifting into gear.

The engine can be mated to Yamaha's own 5' LCD screen gauge which frees up space on the dashboard for large gps and sounder combinations.

Yamaha also will be showing its WaveRunners Personal Water Craft range that has the flagship FX series with the largest engine in the industry, down to the exciting SuperJet models.

Hobie Cat Australia will display its current line-up of recreation and racing sailboats, pedal-driven and paddled kayaks and stand up paddle boards.

The Hobie Adventure and Tandem Islands roto-moulded boats with their distinctive square-topped mainsails also will be displayed.

Caloundra Marine will have an extensive range of Quintrex boats on display ranging from the three metre models through to 6.5m and including the Trident, Cruiseabouts, Fishabouts, Renegades, Bustas, Explorers, Darts, Hornets, Fish Nippers and Jon Punts. Some will feature the Blade hull which is a further development on the Millennium hull.

The new boats and motors being displayed will be backed with an almost endless fleet of other marine experiences to create a festival of maritime-related fun for every member of the family.

A fishing expo stage where local fishing gurus will guide visitors through the gap between untried theory and successful reality; celebrity cooking demonstrations; new marine equipment; competitions for the youngsters; interactive displays and expert lectures are all on the program.

There even are things of interest for fishers who get to the water by bicycle or motorcycle, such as the ultra-portable Travel Master fishing rod that with click-in sections, morphs into 36 different types of rod all stored in the one compact carry case.

In another innovative fishing strategy and after watching her husband spend a frustrating afternoon in the backyard trying to learn the art of flinging a cast net into a perfect circle, Mackay woman, Margaret Donald will be exhibiting the E Z Throw cast nets.

They feature an aluminium ring attached which, when thrown parallel to the water, creates a centrifugal force that opens the net out into a near perfect circle every time.

GME will be showcasing its locally designed multi-media marine entertainment system, the G.Dek which accommodates playlists on an iPod or iPhone as well as a digital radio receiver and playing videos from an SD card or a USB.

Lowrance and others will mount electronics displays, Boat Bling Australia will display its boat cleaning, polishing and detailing products on the MB Boat Stand and Barz Optics range will have its full range of models including floating, polarized, non-polarised, bi-focal readers and photo chromic sunglasses.

More than 60 stand displays already have been booked for the Brisbane Boat Show which runs from Friday September 6 to Monday, September 9.

Other highlights of the show include weekend appearances by Paul Worsteling from television’s I Fish series; a cooking stage where Bart Beek will teach you how to prepare recipes from the current edition of Club Marine’s magazine; a kids’ marine zone with free activities and live weigh-ins for the Bream Queensland open fishing tournament
