Today at the Sydney International Boat Show it was announced that Navico Australia has appointed the industry stalwart Oceantalk as the sub-distributor of premium electronics brands Northstar and Simrad. It marks the start of a powerful new alliance in the Australian marine industry and one which is likely to have a significant long term effect on both technical and sales support for the Northstar and Simrad brands.

Navico Australia’s Director of Sales and Marketing Damien Weber said the appointment of Oceantalk carried with it significant advantages and would be beneficial for both companies.
‘The partnership with Robin is really aimed at acknowledging the strengths that Robin has in the technical dealer and installer channel and the government channel. We’re recognising that strength and hence engaging Oceantalk as our sub-distributor.’
'The channel segmentation plan will maximise proven strengths of both organisations to cement Navico’s market-leading position in the Asia Pacific region.’
'It’s an ideal fit with Navico’s global vision of providing both recreational and commercial markets with the world’s most advanced marine electronics.'
Navico was formed through the merger of two of the world's most important players in the field of marine electronics: Simrad and Lowrance. It is now a key player in the marine industry and develops, manufactures, markets and sells the brands of B&G, Eagle, Lowrance, MX Marine, Navman, Northstar and Simrad, which are distributed in more than 100 countries. Navico has approx. 2,800 employees and a 2006 turnover of nearly USD 320 million.
As the Australian agent for a range of marine products, from installation solutions to night vision technology, Oceantalk is well-positioned to work with Navico Australia to grow the Northstar and Simrad business units. They have a well established and extremely widespread dealership network throughout Australia.
‘Oceantalk dealership encompasses service dealers in pretty much every port that people are likely to call in…and that’s what it’s all about: keeping customers happy’ said Oceantalk’s Managing Director Robin Kydd.
He said that Oceantalk was looking forward to the challenge.

'We’re thrilled to be working with the highly-progressive, global corporation that is Navico… we see Navico as a group with a well-planned and very bright future,' Mr Kydd said.
'Our considerable contact network and vast experience will most certainly assist in growing the market share of both Northstar and Simrad.'
Mr Kydd said that he is excited about the deal and enthusiastic about the future of the Navico/Oceantalk alliance.
‘We as a group of people really enjoy winning and building things. We have chosen Navico, as Navico has chosen us, because that’s what we enjoy doing. We’re moving to a winning team…and so we have a lot of adrenaline running at the moment.’
‘Oceantalk’s is aware of Navico’s plans for the next 5 years. We’re getting out there to make it happen. We’ve got the backing of people who can make it happen, and we’ve seen their plans, so it will happen.’
Oceantalk currently distributes a wide range of cutting edge marine products. These include NVTi- night vision technologies, tacktick- solar instruments, Intellian technologies- satellite tv system, Max Power- bow and stern thrusters, Comar Systems- ship location systems, Scanstrut- installation solutions and Superdigi mobile tv- mobile tv tuners.

Doug Anderson, Navico’s Regional Director (Asia Pacific) said that Navico’s R&D was currently developing products that would be particularly suited to the Australian market.
‘Navico now has R & D facilities all round the world including NZ, US and Norway. It’s a very powerful R & D team and there’s a lot of R & D efforts going in right now for future products.
‘There’s products in the pipeline that are going to be very applicable for Australian markets so watch this space.’
Navico Australia’s appointment of Oceantalk to distribute Northstar and Simrad into government and technical channels will not, in any way, affect the current distribution of Eagle, Lowrance and Navman brands. Navico Australia’s exclusive distribution of these brands, to all channels, will continue as normal.
