2013 Miami Winter Series to be ushered in by 40+ Melges 20 fleet
Thu, 6 Dec 2012
The opening warning signal for the 2013 Audi Melges 20 Miami Winter Series, hosted by the Coconut Grove Sailing Club (GCSC) is just moments away from grand commencement. In anticipation of yet another forthcoming banner racing season, 42 impeccable, world-class teams have assembled in warm Miami, Florida to race the three-day affair.
Of the more than 40 teams scheduled to attend, the vast majority of the fleet call the USA home representing California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia and Washington DC. Canada has witnessed incredible fleet growth and is perfectly defined by the nine teams present in Miami. 2011 Gold Cup Champion Alessandro Rombelli on Stig is the only Italian entry. Mark Plaxton on Intac proudly represents the British Virgin Islands.
Registration, practice, regatta preparation and opening ceremonies happen on Thursday, December 6, with racing taking place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (eight races are scheduled). Great social activities are planned once back onshore at CGSC. In particular, on Friday, December 7, Melges USA's Andy Burdick and Harry Melges will be providing a fun and informative de-brief after racing.
