In the 2013 Route des Princes, racing with the whole MOD70 fleet in close contact for periods today, Yann Guichard and the crew of Spindrift continue to lead Leg 2 as they passed to the east of the centre of the depression and have been enjoying fast downwind sailing, slowed only by the confused, difficult seas.

The ISAF World Sailing Rankings for 17th June 2013 have been released with Austrian sailors storming up the rankings to match Australia with four top three positions. At world number one, eight nations are now represented with Australia's Mat Belcher and Will Ryan unbeaten, again. In the 49er class, the French have claimed both the number one and number two spots.

The World Speed Sailing Record Council (WSSR) has announced the establishment of a new World Record by Kito De Pavant (FRA). Pavant sailed singlehanded Monohull 60 foot 'Groupe Bel' from Marseille to Carthage.

Christoph Burger, with immediate effect, will be on board of North Sails to enforce their presence in Switzerland. He is born in a sailmaking-family and has 20 years experiences in sailing. He will complete the teams around Daniel Schroff in the German-speaking part of Switzerland and Pierre-Yves Jorand in the French-speaking part.

Rumours across Australia is that a new political party would be formed during the 30th Audi Hamilton Island Race Week 2013, which will be staged only weeks before the federal election, have been confirmed. Details are sketchy at this stage, but it is known that the announcement will be heard and seen during the staging of the Prix d’ Elegance on Friday, August 23.

Artemis Racing's Sailing Director, Iain Percy, has spoken out for the first time since the team's training accident, on May 9, 2013, which resulted in the death of his fellow double Olympic medalist, and long time friend and crew, Andrew 'Bart' Simpson. Interviewed by Genny Tulloch of America's Cup Uncut, Percy spoke of the loss of his 'best mate' and the impact on the team.

John Navas was shoreside on San Francisco Bay and shot this excellent video of the warm-up and practice racing between Luna Rossa and Emirates Team NZ, on Thursday.

The biggest little yacht regatta in the Caribbean will set sail this week. The International Optimist Regatta (IOR) presented by Glacial Energy, celebrates its 21st edition, marking over two decades of fostering junior sailing in the Caribbean. The IOR will take place June 21 to 23, prefaced by the Sea Star Clinic June 17 to 19 and Sea Star Team Race on June 20.

In his quest to beat the North Atlantic record, Francis Joyon on board IDEC, has smashed Thomas Coville’s 2008 record by 16 hours, 34 minutes and 30 seconds. Joyon completed his journey in a time of 5 days, 2 hours, 56 minutes and 10 seconds.

San Francisco TV station, ABC7 News' Mark Matthews interviews Artemis Racing's CEO, Paul Cayard, on the team's attempts to recover from the fatal training incident on May 9, and when they expect to be sailing again.
Cayard is also reminded of some comments he made over two years ago, about what could happen in an AC72 incident with the boats sailing at speeds of 40 to 50kts.

By winning the today’s medal race at the 2013 470 European Championships in Formia, Italy the NZL Sailing Team women’s 470 pair of Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie have won the Silver Medal.
Paul Snow-Hansen and Daniel Willcox have finished 8th overall in the Men’s Open 470 European Championship – another strong result for this new partnership.

The penultimate day of the PWA Catalunya World Cup turned out to be a largely frustrating affair as winds of 5-13 knots teased the competitors for the duration of the afternoon - so despite several sailors checking the conditions - the wind never quite materialized enough to resume the racing.

Australia's Mathew Belcher and Will Ryan have won the 2013 470 European Championship in Formia, Italy, extending their impressive winning run together.
The pair has now won all eight regattas they have contested together since teaming up at the end of 2012, with Belcher’s winning streak now sitting at 16 events.

At the 470 European Championships in Formia, Italy, on Saturday June 15th, Britain’s 470 sailors wrapped up with a double podium celebration, claiming silver in the men’s division through Luke Patience and Joe Glanfield, and with bronze for Sophie Weguelin and Eilidh McIntyre in the women’s event.

The 2013 Superyacht Cup Regatta is set to take place from the 19-22 June in Palma, Mallorca, with a five strong fleet of J Class yachts preparing to take part. Hanuman, Lionheart, Rainbow, Ranger and Velsheda are entered for the event and on 19th June will line up to fleet race with a scheduled start at 13.00.

On the final day of the Etchells World Championship in Rosignano, Tuscany, Italy, there was no wind and therefore no racing action at the Yacht Club Cala de’ Medici. After eight races out of the nine scheduled the winner is 'The Martian' skippered by American helmsman Marvin Beckmann, from Houston, sailing with tactician Steven Hunt and Ezra Culver.

Traveling some 650 miles over the past 24 hours, Francis Joyon is close to his own 24-hour solo sailing distance record of 666 miles. This figure alone divulges the incredible performance the sailor from Locmariaquer has achieved since setting out from New York on Wednesday.

Mother Nature can work in mysterious ways as is such at the New York Yacht Club Annual Regatta. When the nine boats competing in the Farr 40 class headed out to the race course on Narragansett Bay during day two, the wind was absolutely howling. About two hours later, the fleet was totally becalmed.

The 19th Marion Bermuda Race is underway with a fast start. Of the 35 boats that had finally registered, 34 made it to the line. Warm Rain, a 32-foot Pacific Seacraft that was the smallest boat in the fleet, scratched yesterday. Sprit of Bermuda, the sole Classic Division entry crossed the line alone thus first in the first start.

In the 2013 Route des Princes, just as they did in Valencia, Sebastien Josse's crew on Edmond de Rothschild proved the masters of the short, high intensity inshore race courses Friday on the more compact confines and tricky currents of Lisbon's Tagus river, emerging from the first three races of the Portugese stopover with a narrow lead of two points for inshore series here.

It was once more with a remarkably calm voice for a sailor at the helm of a 30-metre machine speeding along at between 25 and 30 knots that Francis Joyon confirmed his ETA at the finish, in other words that he is due to cross the legendary line marking the finish of the North Atlantic crossing off The Lizard at the southern tip of Cornwall on Sunday evening.

To celebrate the Volvo Ocean Race's 40th birthday in 2013, the race presents a photo exhibition with a spectacular new take on sailing’s premier round-the-world adventure. The exhibition is running at the Volvo Ocean Race Museum in Alicante, Spain from Friday, June 14 until Feb 28, 2014 and uses 40 images to tell the story of a race that began life as the Whitbread on September 8, 1973.

At the 2013 Etchells World Championship, ISAF Vice-President George Andreadis was on form in Rosignano, Italy on Thursday but the Martian retains the overall lead. Sailing Efyra III, Andreadis was at the top of the fleet in both the races sailed, finishing second in the opening race of the day and ending on a high with a bullet in the second race to climb to third overall on the leaderboard.
