With just over 100nm to sail to the finish line in Sanya, China, Telefonica looks set to take her third ocean leg win.
According to the routing options from PredictWind, at 1900hrs UTC on 3 February, the Iker Martinex skippered Spainish entry, just has to sail the direct course to the finish, and should be able to average 15-17kts for the remaining distance.

At 2200 UTC tonight, in the Volvo Ocean Race, the first four boats racing in Leg 3 Stage 2 were screaming towards the Sanya finish in a high-speed chase led by Iker Martinez and Team Telefónica. Groupama sailing team were holding on to second place, 30.20 nautical miles (nm) behind.

Volvo Ocean Race - With less than a day from the scheduled finish in Sanya on Saturday morning, the fleet are making straight for the Chinese island in around twenty knots of north-easterly breeze. Warren Jones International Youth Regatta – Young New Zealand skipper Josh Junior has taken the Regatta, beating local Perth sailor David Gilmour 3 – 1 in a tense and hard fought final. This self-effacing young man stepped ashore with a smile as wide as Cook Straight, heaping praise upon his crew.

After crashing off a monstrous wave in the Southern Ocean, Global Ocean Race leaders Ross and Campbell Field of Team Buckley Systems have suffered damage to their yacht and are heading back to New Zealand.

Afrodite Kyranakou and Jeske Kisters of Netherlands held onto their top position and became the Women's Junior World Champions. Young’s yacht, Young Rebel, is a 36ft Young 11 design which he has entered in the Performance Racing Division. ‘I’ve tried for many years to get to Race Week as crew with other people, but outside influences have always prevented me being there,’ Young explained from Auckland today. ‘This year I’m determined to be there – so I’ve entered my own boat.’

Warren Jones International Youth Regatta - David Gilmour and his crew went undefeated today to win the round robin stage of the event. Gilmour finished with a 16 win, two loss score line, which gives him the privilege of choosing his opponent for the quarter finals, and he had no hesitation in selecting eighth placed Jay Griffin from Sydney’s Cruising Yacht Club of Australia.

At Takapuna Boating Club the 2012 470 Junior World Championship day began very quietly with no wind, no sun and a light drizzle of warm rain. Sailors left the shore around 11am when there was a hint of a breeze and by midday the first attempt at eleventh race of the twelve race series was underway.

For the first time in its sixteen year history, Sail Auckland will be hosted at the Royal Akarana Yacht Club. More than two hundred competitors from thirteen countries begin racing on the Waitemata Harbour on Saturday February 4th in the Olympic, Paralympic and other invited classes.

The 14th edition of the ISAF Women's Match Racing World Championship is set to take place from 25-30 June in Gothenburg, Sweden. The Notice of Race for the championship event has now been released. Hosted by the Royal Gothenburg Yacht Club (GKSS) the sixteen teams will sail the Elliot 6metre keelboat, the equipment being used for Women's Match Racing at the London 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition.

Warren Jones International Youth Regatta - Local skipper David Gilmour and his crew have taken sole possession of the top spot on the leaderboard winning all but one of their races.
'It’s been pretty good,' commented Gilmour at the end of the day, 'in some of the races we sailed as well as we wanted to, and everything has gone to plan, we won all our races but one so we’re pretty happy about it.'
