The final day of the Telcoinabox Airlie Beach Race Week 2012 was raced in glorious Whitsunday tropical weather. Though the breeze was light, the fleet enjoyed their last race on Pioneer Bay, in glorious sunshine. Teri Dodds was again on the water and shares these images with you.

It was the final day of Telcoinabox Airlie Beach Race Week 2012. The Sports Boats were the last to start. Series leader Raptor (Mark Buchbach) swung outside the fleet at the Mandalay mark with her asymmetric kite powered up. She dropped her kite at the Bluff mark and slid across the sterns of the much larger Hammer of Queensland and Condor and inside the mark.

Day 2 of Telcoinabox Airlie Beach Race Week - Sailing in Paradise on Pioneer Bay and around the Molle Islands. The Multihulls were first to face the starter’s gun and were quickly away, in 16 knots from 130 degrees. It was a clean start. Most of the division gathered at the committee boat end of the line.

Queensland’s Season of Sailing – Northern circuit just keeps growing
The most significant growth in all three regattas in recent years has been the cruising fleets. In the late 1990’s Airlie Beach Race Week typically had 40 boats competing, Hamilton Island Race Week 120, but together the two regattas grew. Now with a third event on the northern circuit, the combined events are even stronger, each one of them growing in size as the overall desirability of the far north Queensland’s winter sailing scene increases.
