Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie report from Day 2 of the 470 European in Denmark and the final day of the Qualifying Round:
Day 2 at the 470 Europeans, another two races, one nice one and one that went a little pear shaped before we made a bit of a comeback!!
Another day of off-shore tricky winds, shifty with bit pressure differences.. We got the first one right, with a rather nifty left shift and large gust at the top mark coming from nowhere to reach into the lead.. Great fun... From there it was extend, extend, extend.. lovely race..
Then in the next one we missed the first big shift on the first leg, then followed that up with an average downwind to be back in the pack, but came right on the last upwind to get past a few boats and back into fourth, which was much better than where we had been!
Tomorrow the regatta really starts, with the first two races of gold fleet, so all the top boats together, should be even more fun racing!
Looks like we get a 180 degree wind shift for the rest of the regatta all on-shore winds, which we haven't seen here yet, so its a blank slate for all! Now, dinner, debrief and attempt to sleep - Something a little harder here in Denmark as it stays light until after 11pm.. Not quite like the 5pm darkness in NZ at the moment!!
