Supermaxi CQS works out on the Waitemata

The revamped radical supermaxi CQS was out again on the Waitemata Harbour, Auckland for more sea-trialling.

Although the Australian owned supermaxi did not appear to be be using her DSS foils it was possible to see the sailing characteristics of CQS as she sailed in a moderate 12kt breeze.

The reverse bow has much the same effect as an AC72 style bow - getting the entry of the bow through the water with little fuss and cleaning up the waterline nicely.

The prominent rig supports which look to be obvious candidates for drag and wave making, but stayed well clear in the flat water, and looked like they would cause minimal disturbance if they did become immersed.

Her sails and rig looked to be working well. Headsails are bigger than is normally seen on a supermaxi in terms of their J-measurement and have minimal overlap.

CQS is entered in the 320nm White Island Race , starting on Friday at 1000hrs. The event is a qualifier for the 2016 Rolex Sydney Hobart Race.
