Steinlager 2 returns home - relive the great moments - Video and Audio

Steinlager 2 returns home, May 5, 2012 Richard Gladwell www.photosport.co.nz

In the 1989/90 Whitbread Race, the Peter Blake skippered ketch, Steinlager 2 won all six legs, taking both trophies for each leg.

On May 5,2012 she returned to New Zealand after a six month voyage from Europe. In this video of the arrival we have overlaid a couple of the great commentaries from her career.

The first is the the finish of Leg 3 into Auckland in 1990, as Fisher and Paykel (Grant Dalton) led, only to be passed by Steinlager 2 in the outer Hauraki Gulf as the two boats were hit by a sudden rain squall. Top international yachting commentator, Peter Montgomery was on the water, broadcasting live - and we have a section of that epic commentary.

Then from Southampton Water, Peter Montgomery interviews Peter Blake, soon after the finish of the 1989/90 Whitbread Race, as Blake relays the feeling and emotion on board Steinlager 2.

Duration is just under six minutes - enjoy, remember and reflect.
