South Australia Beneteau Bugle 2013 - Strong fleet ready to set sail

South Australia Beneteau Bugle 2013. Entries have closed with a strong Beneteau fleet of 13 yachts racing in the upcoming race hosted by Beneteau distributor Vicsail.

The fleet is excited to welcome the Vice Commodore of the Royal South Australian Yacht Squadron, Peter Cooling, who will be competing in the cruising division on Phil Stump’s classic 20-year-old Beneteau Oceanis 400, Erica.

Andrew Saies’ , Two True, Sydney to Hobart winner in 2009, skippered by Rob Human will be challenging the racing division.

The day will begin with a welcome from Vicsail’s Micah Lane at the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia. Soon after, the yachts will meet for the start of the race at 1300. The fleet will gather for a BBQ and celebrations after the race where the winners will be announced.

You won’t have to venture far to find someone who believes a few Lagoon catamarans have been whacked by the Ugly Stick. Just like most of the Ssang Yong’s out there, you won’t have to venture too far to find someone who believes a few of the Lagoon catamarans have been whacked once or twice by the Ugly Stick. Rather, for some they may even feel that they have indeed had a brush in with the whole tree.

Rolex Miami OCR - Medals decided
It was 'do or die' today for sailors in the final medal races of US Sailing’s Rolex Miami OCR. With finishes counting double points today in the fleet racing, Sweden’s Rasmus Myrgren finished third in the 104-boat Laser class, the largest here, and added six points to his score line, putting him three points out in front of Argentina’s Julio Alsogaray for the Gold. Taking Bronze after Alsogaray’s Silver was yesterday’s leader Paul Goodison (GBR), the 2008 Laser Olympic Gold Medalist.

Early news was that Ben Ainslie had managed to convert his DNE from race six into an RAF and was back in the hunt. Racing started earlier today to try and catch up the schedule for most classes and the fleet was greeted by 10 to 15 knots, offshore, shifty and choppy, with unlimited pumping on all the runs except the last one of the day.

Miami OCR - Drama for Ainslie as Scott hangs onto Finn lead
It was a real mix-up day on Biscayne Bay with lots of drama and most sailors picking up a high score at some point. It was a real mix-up day on Biscayne Bay with lots of drama and most sailors picking up a high score at some point. An early morning five-seven knots gave way to a glassy sea and then an even lighter race late in the day after a four hour wait.
